REED CITY – It was an impressive start for the Reed City boys soccer team on Wednesday but the Coyotes couldn’t quite sustain it.

Hart fell behind Reed City 2-0 but scored five unanswered goals to take a 5-2 first-round district win on Wednesday in Division 3 action. Hart will play at Big Rapids on Tuesday. The season ends for Reed City.

“We concentrated on defense and trying to take their No. 1 and 2 guys out and contain them,” Reed city coach Chris Maddox said. “I thought we did a dang good job with that. It was a good back and forth game for about 25 minutes. They got the lead and we couldn’t chip away.”

The game was tied at halftime 2-2. Reed City goals, in the first 10 minutes, came from Parker Benedict and Aiden Mieras, both unassisted

“It was our seniors’ last game and was very emotional,” Mieras said. “It definitely got better over the season.”

Hart defeated Reed City 9-1 earlier in the season.

“We got heart,” Mieras said. “We cared a lot more about this game and we realized how close it was for seniors not to be playing again. The underclassmen got their hearts and hopes up and got them ready.”

Goalkeeper was Jordon Lofquist. He’s among the seniors along with Andrew Clementshaw, Anakin Andrus, Benedict and Selfridge.
