BROOKLYN — Evart’s Austin Hamilton was an all-stater on Saturday in the Division 4 state final at Michigan International Speedway, finishing 28th in 17:06. Teammate Nathan Woods was 50th (17:38.7).

“I wasn’t very happy about it,” Hamilton said. “It was pretty muddy today. I’m not happy with my performance.”

If he had a chance to run it again, Hamilton suggested he would have pushed harder in the second mile.

Reed City had two boy runners in Division 3. Brandon Wirth was 40th (16:56.4) and Calvin Rohde 76th (17:17.7).

Reed City had one girl runner, freshman, Abbigail Kiaunis, who was 42nd in 19:54.4

“We’re very proud of our runners and their performances,” Reed City coach Rich Saladin said. “This is the first time for us as coaches being here, and the first time for any Reed City boys since 2012 or girls since 2009.

“They represented Reed City very well. I know they were all disappointed to finish out of the medal group (top 30) but Abbi was 42 out of 245 and Brandon 40th and Calvin 76th out of 254 - and that’s pretty impressive. They are all underclassmen and they will definitely be motivated to try to get back here in 2018. We’ll learn and grow from this experience.

“Thank you to all of the parents, teammates, and fans for your support. It’s been a great season.”

Placing for Evart girls in Division 4 was Sophie Scott 138th (22:36.3).
