EVART — Evart graduated many athletes from a track team that finished second in the state this season. But they also have several athletes who are returning including Danny Griffin, who will be a senior for the 2016-17 season. Griffin was among the top point producers on a team that was second-place at the Division 4 state meet. Griffin won the 100-meter dash at the Highland Conference meet (12.11). He also won the 200 meters in 23.72 seconds. He won the 400 meters at regionals in 52.28 seconds and was ninth at the state meet. He was on the 4x200 relay team that took sixth at the state meet in 1:33.84 and included Cody Pritchard, Dillon Danley and Kyle Stokes. His 4x400 relay team won the regional in 3:39.92 and included Pritchard, Josh Woods and Zach Parshall. Evart placed 20th at the state meet. After the dual season ended, Griffin noted his team was especially preparing for regionals. It seemed to pay off considering the Wildcats took first place and finished as Division 4 state runners-up. Griffin indicated the 400 was his best event. His regional performance was a major highlight. His second best event was the 200. He was looking for a 23.5 in the 200 and got the 23.72. “I’ve gotten stronger,” he said. On the relays he’s been the anchor and thrives on the pressure. “We lost a lot of people (from last year),” Griffin said prior to the state meet. “But we have the kids to win the state title.” The Wildcats almost took first, but instead had to settle for second place. “We’ve had a lot of people injured this season,” Griffin said.
