Griffin having another strong track season

EVART — Danny Griffin had a very productive season as a freshman for the Evart boys track and field team and so far has been doing the same as a sophomore.

His personal record in the 400 was a 53.7 last year.

“Last year, we had a really good year,” he said. “We lost some good seniors.”

He’s been doing the 400-meter run and various relays. He’s looking to be in the 52-second range in the 400 meters.

“I need to go 100 percent in practice,” he said.

Griffin also has high hopes for the 4x800 relay.

From last year, “I think I’ve gotten a little bit stronger,” he said. “I’ve grown a little bit too. That will help me out a lot. I was just a puny freshman last year.”

Griffin also had a standout season in football and basketball. He’s becoming a solid three-sport varsity athlete as only a sophomore.

The Wildcats will have regionals Saturday at Breckenridge and the Highland Conference meet on May 19.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do,” Griffin said. “If we go 100 percent in practice, we’ll go very far.”

He expects Pine River to be among the teams to beat in the league.
