Griffin eyes banner senior season at Evart

EVART – Danny Griffin recalls many ups and down the Evart Wildcats enjoyed during the 2015 football season.

But the Wildcat senior is hoping to help his team enjoy plenty of ups this season.

Griffin and his team started preparing for the season during Sunday night’s midnight madness to kick off the practice schedule.

“It’s not too hot and everyone’s around,” Griffin said.

This is his third varsity season.

Last season a highlight was an upset win over Beal City. But then the Wildcats didn’t win a league contest the rest of the season.

“We beat the best team in the conference but lost the rest of the (league) games,” Griffin said. “That’s pretty heartbreaking.”

The season starts at home Aug. 26 against White Cloud and Griffin has high hopes.

“Our line will be way stronger,” he said. “We had a couple of sophomores on our line. This year, they’re way stronger.”

Griffin will be a running back and cornerback.

Speed is his strength at running back and man-to-man coverage is his top asset at cornerback.

Griffin played a lot of football and basketball during the summer. He indicated he’s improved on his speed and strength.

“I’ve grown a lot,” he said.

To win this season, the key in each game will be “more leadership and pick up someone when they do bad,” Griffin said.
