LEROY — Owen Gray has been making an impact for the Pine River boys basketball team in his first varsity season.

He was on the junior varsity last season but is seeing more action this season as a varsity player.

“I’ve been producing on offense and energetic on the floor,” he said. “It’s also having a good attitude on offense.”

Gray also put in the extra work during the offseason.

“I went to just about everything they had,” he said. “I’m a power forward, they want me to score, play defense and rebound.”

His best game has been 11 points against Harrison.

“I had one putback and all the other ones were jump shots or post moves,” Gray said.

He’s been using his quickness and weight to try being an asset on the floor. He wants to improve on his ball handling.

Pine River plays home against McBain on Friday.

“We’re looking good, we’re looking solid,” he said. “We’re playing as a team. We’re assisting and doing what we need to do.”
