EVART – Evart sophomore Darren Gostlin has been among the reasons his wrestling squad continues to build a strong program.

After his first seven matches, Gostlin was 5-2. He was 3-2 at the very competitive Big Rapids Invitational.

“I feel like I could have done better,” Gostlin said.

He been at 112 pounds and figures that will be it for most of the season. But he’s hoping to cut down to 103, where he could have more success.”

Gostlin wrestled above .500 last season.

I want to make it to states this season,” he said. “I was one match off from making it last year. I have to build up more strength. I feel I’m pretty good on my feet, at neutral. I need to improve on strength.”

The team wrestled at the Coleman Invitational on Saturday. Evart has 13 wrestlers on its roster.

“It’s looking a lot better this year,” Gostlin said. “It’s nice to have more kids.”
