Girls basketball teams open season this week

REED CITY — Girls basketball teams scrimmaged last week to get ready for their schedules that opened this week.

Evart was at Farwell on Monday while Reed City visited Pine River on Tuesday in nonleague action.

Reed City had a home scrimmage last month against McBain and Frankfort.

“I had a good chance to look at all the kids in different situations,” Reed City coach Brian Koopman said. “Besides practice, we were able to play someone else and see what we have to do. It was a helpful scrimmage and see what we have to work on to get ready for the season, and all the little things.”

The Coyotes were also scheduled for a scrimmage earlier last week.

“Overall, it was a pretty good scrimmage,” Koopman said.

Evart has strong numbers this season and was scheduled to see scrimmage action this week. Coach Paul Higgins was hoping to get off to a strong start when the team played at Farwell and then hosts Chippewa Hills on Friday

Pine River also had three preseason scrimmages.

“We did OK, but can get better,” Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert said. “I’m happy with how we improved, as we went throughout the scrimmage.”

The Bucks plays Morley Stanwood at home on Dec. 7.
