LEROY — Brandon Fulks was a spark plug for the Pine River football team in the fall and he’s been doing the same thing for the Bucks this winter on the basketball court.

Fulks has been helping the Bucks from the guard’s position and was playing a key role in the squad’s seven-game winning streak to end January.

A major highlight was a 56-50 victory over previously undefeated Lakeview in mid-January. Fulks and the Bucks built a 38-18 halftime lead over the home team. “We pressed the ball and didn’t let them get that easy shot,” Fulks said after that game.

Lakeview mounted a furious rally in the second half but it fell short.

“We had to keep playing and not give up,” Fulks said, adding that the win over Lakeview was among his team’s best moments.

Continuing to apply defensive pressure is the key for success in future games,  Fulks said. “We have to keep making shots and keep playing hard.”

He’s hoping to improve on his shooting, Fulks added.

The Bucks have two Highland Conference losses and are hoping to get back in the league race, Fulks said.

“The sky is the limit,” he said.

Pine River played Evart on Tuesday, weather-permitting. The Bucks are scheduled to host Manton on Friday in a Highland Conference battle against a team that defeated the Bucks earlier in the season.
