Fowler scoring plenty of points
REED CITY — Austin Fowler is a sophomore, but is looking at scoring a lot of points for Reed City’s wrestling team this season.
Fowler was 4-1 at 215 pounds to open the season in December at Kent City.
He was also at 215 pounds last year.
“It went not so good last year,” Fowler said. “I made a couple of mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes. I’m working to put those mistakes past me.”
But he was happy with his season debut.
“I wrestled OK, but there’s always room for improvement,” Fowler said.
He was 3-1 the second weekend of the season at the Southwest Classic in South Haven. He also won a match at Tri County in Central State Activities Association Gold Division action and had eight wins entering the holiday break.
“My goal is districts, regionals and state,” he said.
Among Fowler’s main strategies on the mat is waiting for his opponent to make a mistake. Top work is another strength and Fowler is looking to improve on his bottom work.
He’s looking to be a better wrestler by the end of the season.
“We have a lot of young guys,” Fowler said. “We have a lot of people who never wrestled before and they’re working hard.”
The Coyotes will wrestle at Fremont on Wednesday.
