EVART  — Cody Fournier hopes the remaining weeks of the Evart boys basketball season will be extremely profitable.

Fournier is a senior playing a key role for coach Kris Morgan’s team.

The Wildcats have been taking on a very tough Highland Conference schedule and learned how competitive a team like Manton was in a recent loss.

“Mainly defense,” Fournier said after the game as the strategy for his team to stop an opponent like Manton. “We widened up our 2-3 (in the second half).”

Overall, Fournier can see improvement on his team’s part.

“Last game, we played really good defense, he said, acknowledging that offensively, the team tries to “push (the ball) as much as we can,” and bids to avoid a half-court game with the opposition.

A recent contest against Lake City may have been the team’s best game of the season, Fournier recalls.

“Our defense made our offense good,” Fournier said of that particular game.

There’s still plenty of games left on the schedule.

“We just have to start playing more as a team,” Fournier said. “We’re all confident with our shots. We know we can shoot.”
