EVART — Jacob Fortune has been a dangerous passer for the opponents of Evart football to deal with this season.

But with four games left in the regular season and hopefully some post-season contests, Fortune and his teammates want to keep their successes flowing as long as possible.

Fortune passed for 300 yards in week 3 against Manton. He had 186 yards the following week against Beal City.

“The passing has been going pretty good,” Fortune said. “We’ve had some pretty good blocking. The receivers run good routes.”

Since the Manton game, Fortune has noticed where opposing defenses have been presenting better pass coverages.

“It’s been getting difficult to find open receivers,” he said.”The passing game has been working good for us. I imagine we’ll stick with the passing game.”

The rushing game, which had been struggling for Evart, has picked up in recent weeks.

Against Marion last weekend, “we had a better running attack,” Fortune said.

This Saturday, Evart has its homecoming game against Pine River.

“We have to stay focused and keep working hard,” he said, adding that in upcoming tests against powerhouses like Lake City, the key will be “shutting down down their offense.”
