ALLENDALE - It's going to be a very busy winter for former Reed City football standout Anthony Pelton.

He and other recruits were redshirted this fall at Grand Valley and Pelton said he'll be spending the next many weeks weight lifting and getting ready for spring football in March and April as he prepares for his freshman season in 2020.

Redshirt freshmen were able to be with the team at home but did not travel to road games, Pelton noted.

In early December last year, he verbally committed to the Lakers, Pelton said.

"I visited Wayne State and Michigan Tech," Pelton said at the time. "I think Grand Valley is a super program. I've always thought about going there my whole life."'

His brother Taylor is playing at Michigan Tech, which made thinking of going to the Houghton school very tempting.

"It was a very hard decision," Pelton said.

It was a fun experience for Pelton to be with a GLIAC powerhouse program at Grand Valley. The Lakers were 8-3 and missed the playoffs when they lost their last two games of the regular season to Ferris State and Wayne State.

"Overall, the experience was great," Pelton said. "The guys are cool. They helped me learn a new offensive system. I had a great first season."

At Reed City as a senior, Pelton was All-State, the Pioneer Dream Team Defensive Player of the Year with 42 tackles, 12 for losses, one forced fumble, two sacks and one pass breakup.
