Former Evart basketball player to join MMCC program
Kullman to play at Mid-Michigan Community College
EVART — Evart’s Kristin Kullman is extending her women’s basketball career.
The former Highland Conference all-league performer has announced she is joining the basketball program at Mid-Michigan Community College in Harrison.
“She seems pretty excited,” Evart coach Paul Higgins said. “It’s a good opportunity for her.”
Kullman was also a second-squad member of the Pioneer dream team. She led Evart with 13.7 points per game and also averaged 3.7 rebounds. She scored 26 or more points in three games this season.
Kullman said the assistant coach at MMCC, formerly from Beal City, helped to make the contact with her. Beal City is also in Evart’s conference.
“I’m excited about it,” Kullman said. “I always dreamed I would have that opportunity to play again.”
Kullman said she continued to work out even after the season ended in March.
“But it was not knowing I would play again,” Kullman said. “They have open gyms (at Evart High School). I’ll start going to those and start getting back into things.”
MMCC had a 20-6 record last season.
Kullman isn’t sure yet what her role might be as a freshman with the Lakers. She was a consistent point producer in her three varsity seasons with Evart.
“They didn’t really specify,” she said, referring to MMCC coaches. “I’ll probably find out more as I start going to open gyms. But we haven’t talked much about that yet.”
Kullman said her strongest position has been guard. She’s hoping to be able to help MMCC especially as an outside shooter. She plans on working within the next several weeks on that aspect of her game, plus other areas, considering she hasn’t played competitively since March.”
Kullman said MMCC currently has an 11-player roster. She’s undecided right now on her curriculum and will start out with general classes. Prior to the start of practices, she’ll partake in unofficial workouts at MMCC.
