Fitch playing key role for soccer Coyotes

REED CITY – Reed City’s soccer team tied Shelby 1-1 on Monday (May 3) and continues to have a very competitive season.

“It was two very evenly matched teams,” Reed City coach Andrea Pollaski said. “Taylor Hilliard had an unassisted goal in the second half.”

Aliyah Fitch has been a senior for the Coyotes and has been with the program all four years, counting last year when there were no spring sports because of COVID.

She started playing the sport when she was four years old.

Her first two years of high school soccer “were a lot of fun,” Fitch said. “The seniors helped me through it. Coming onto the varsity as a freshman was a little scary. It was nice having those sophomores and juniors to help me through it.”

Fitch plays backline defender.

“If the ball gets past me, I’m there to take it and kick it back up,” she said.

Last year, Fitch and other players had to adjust at not having a season.

“It was very upsetting,” she said. “Soccer is our life and I like playing it.”

But being able to play this season has been a joy for the Coyotes.

“We work pretty well together,” Fitch said. “I’m really excited (for the rest of the season).”
