File photoPARKSIDE — It was a very tough night for Ferris State’s women’s team in Thursday’s Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference 66-57 loss to Wisconsin-Parkside.
Ferris led 11-8 after the first quarter but was outscored 28-15 in the second quarter and 23-14 in the third. It was 36-26 at halftime and 59-40 after the third. The Bulldogs had a 17-7 scoring advantage in the fourth but it wasn’t enough.
“All in all, it was a rally disappointing loss for our kids,” Ferris coach Kurt Westendorp said. “We know what’s at stake. We’ll have to change the script quickly. We have another tough opponent on Saturday. We definitely have to get our minds in the right place.”
Ferris is 11-6 in the conference and 17-8 overall. Adrienne Anderson 20 points for Ferris while Choe Idonyi added 18 points and nine rebounds. Hannah Pockelman had 20 points and Sheridan Flauger had 15 points.
“Pockelman did a nice job in that second half, taking it to us in the paint. Being 8-for-12, she was very efficient,” Westendorp said. “Flauger had a nice game when she got aggressive.”
With the fourth quarter for Ferris, “it was nice to see them some energy,” Westendorp said. “We’re not going to be a full court- pressing team for 40 minutes. That’s not what we do. We have to be solid defensively for a full 40 minutes
Ferris is at Purdue Northwest on Saturday.
