Fasbender signs with Grand Valley

REED CITY — Reed City senior Nate Fasbender made it official earlier this month when he signed a national letter of intent to attend Grand Valley State University.

Fasbender is the defending Division 3 state pole vault champion.

Grand Valley “has a really good computer information systems program,” Fasbender said. “That’s what I’m going into. It’s close to relatives. Their vaulting program is a strong one. It’s a nice little trifecta. I looked at about five different colleges. It came down between Aquinas and Grand Valley.”

He’s been focusing on vaulting higher as a high school senior but said he’s not specifically sure yet what his collegiate goals might be. His best effort has been 15-3 at an indoor state meet in Aquinas.

“I’m excited to see where the rest of the season takes me here,” Fasbender said.

He’ll be a receiving a partial athletic scholarship to attend GVSU. He started thinking about a collegiate pole vaulting career in his junior high school season when another college started talking to him. He started his discussion in early January with Grand Valley.
