EVART — Coach Ryan Hopkins is opening Evart’s fourth wrestling season this week with 17 athletes on his team.

Action begins at Coleman for a quad on Wednesday. Evart will also be at the Big Rapids Invitational on Saturday.

“It’s the closest I’ve ever had to having every weight filled,” Hopkins said. “Caleb Parrish is a returning wrestler who should do well at heavyweight. Ben Randall is at 152. I have some good freshmen coming in like Reese Ransom at 135 and Darrin Gostlin at 103. We have a lot of good kids this year. We’re really going to make a step up this year.”

A home match is scheduled on Dec. 13 against Lake City. There’s also a conference meet scheduled for mid-January. Evart is in the Mid-Michigan Wrestling Conference.

“We’ve got five Saturday tournaments,” Hopkins said. “Most of them are on Wednesday.”

Evart is at the Chippewa Hills Invitational on Dec. 16.
