EVART -- In the weekend state finals at Ford Field in Detroit, Evart competed in Division 4 and had two of three wrestlers place.

Darren Gostlin (119) decisioned Kevin Spoelman of Ravenna 4-0 for fifth place. Cole Hopkins (16) won his seventh-place match over Austin Barnette, of New Lothrop 3-0

"Cole wrestled tough competition in every match," Evart coach Ben Bryant said. "For a freshman at a high weight, he had an extremely successful season. He displayed great work ethic and leadership skills all year. I'm very proud of him and excited for things to come. Darren Gostlin had a fantastic weekend. He placed fifth. He did a fantastic job following the game plan and staying mentally tough in his matches. He had a slow start to the season with a few injuries, but really showcased his skill and grit this weekend.

"Reese Ransom did not place. However, he had an outstanding year again for us. He was a hammer all season. He hit the 100-win milestone this season and we are looking forward to him reaching for 150 next season and a place near the top of the medal stand."
