EVART - Evart's wrestling team went up against some powerful competition in the Joe Loren Memorial Invitational on Sunday at Chippewa Hills, and came out with two wrestlers who medaled in the top eight.

Nick Robinson and Reese Ransom placed. Robinson was sixth at 215. Ransom was fourth at 152.

"Everybody wrestled really well," Evart coach Ryan Hopkins said. "It's big step-up competition for us. I was proud of the boys. Both are having fantastic season. Both have winning records."

Ransom lost in the third-place match to Jacob Haynes of Whitehall 14-1 in a major decision.

Robinson lost a 5-2 decision to Dayton Rose of Orchard View in the match for eighth place.

"I think I did all right in my first match," Robinson said. "In my last three, I think I could have done better. I worked hard so I was happy with that."

Evart will wrestle at Traverse City West on Saturday.

Josiah Beard wrestled in the consolation A match for 145 pounds and lost 3-1 to Connor Hess of Pennfield.

Kaden DuBreuil was the consolation B champ at 171 pounds.
