Evart wrestlers add two more wins

Wildcats set for key tests at Saturday's Reed City Invitational

EVART – It was a light night of wrestling but also two huge home wins for Evart on Thursday night.

The Wildcats took on two teams low in numbers and beat Frankfort 60-6 followed by a 64-10 conference win over Houghton Lake.

Evat had three actual winners against Frankfort with Michael Lodholtz (157), Riley Ransom (165) and Cole Hopkins (190). Wildcats earning voids were Joseph Kunin, Alex Burhans, Trenton Brown, Alannah Bentley, Landon Babb, Jaxon Craven and Dallas Langworthy.

Against Houghton Lake, Riley Ransom pinned Daniel Bonk at 165 pounds in 22 seconds, Bentley defeated Corah Marcotte 11-2 and Clayton Keysor (132) won by forfeit.

The key to her win, Bentley said, “was getting my cardio up and moving my feet a lot,” she said, “and moving my hands and getting all my technical stuff right.”

Taking forfeit victories were Lodholtz, Hopkins, Babb, Burhan, Ethan Conk, Trenton Brown, Langworthy and Kunin.

“We had a tough match at 113 against Frankfort,” Evart coach Ben Bryant said. “Ethan (Conk) wrestled well but came up a point short. Cole Hopkins had a big win at 190. Riley Ransom had a big win in that match for us also. He wrestled well.”

Joseph Kunin was 2-0 with a pair of voids at 150 pounds.

“It’s going pretty good,” he said. “I’m kind of doing better than I thought I would do coming into this year. As a team, we’ve been improving

Evart wrestles Saturday at Reed City in an invitational format meet.

“It’s only our second individual tournament of the year,” Bryant said. “We’re excited to see what our kids can do again.  They’ll get more and better matches.”

Evart is home for a conference match next Wednesday.
