EVART  — The 2017 football season is several months away, but teams are working to finalize their schedules as quickly as possible.

Evart football Pat Craven said his schedule is “almost set.”

Weeks three through seven are set with Highland Conference games. Week one will feature Fremont, which will replace White Cloud. Harrison will again appear on week two against Evart.

Holton returns for week eight. But Evart had to find a new week nine opponent after Baldwin announced it was going to 8-player football.

Craven said nothing has been finalized but it appeared his school could be playing Bridgeport.

He indicated Fremont is a two-year arrangement and Harrison and Holton will both be home opponents.

Craven confirmed the Highland will have arrangements with the Central State Activities Association Silver Division for crossover opponents starting in 2018 for weeks 2 and 8.

“Everybody will play each other home and away,” Craven said. “We’ve been working on that for a couple of years.”

The two leagues are similar in enrollments, Craven said.

“Locations are similar,” Craven said. ‘‘We’re trying to go against playing non-league opponents where you have to travel to two or three hours to play a football game. The CSAA Silver were looking to do some things similar to what we’re looking for. It’s a nice matchup.”

CSAA Silver teams are Hesperia, Holton, Kent City, Lakeview, Morley Stanwood and White Cloud.
