Evart volleyball team looking ahead

EVART — Evart first-year volleyball coach Katie Nostrant started the process of building the Wildcat program this season.

“This year was tough for us,” Nostrant said. “The (seniors) have had three different coaches their high school career and that takes a toll on them. We worked very hard on learning the basics of passing, serving, setting, hitting, rotations, blocking, defense.”

Nostrant appreciated the hard work her team displayed.

“Even though our record was 0-32 there were several things that we did win,” Nostrant said. “The girls really bonded this year and showed on the court their teamwork.”

Key graduating seniors were Allyssa Witbeck (outside hitter), Mikayla Wallace (middle hitter), Loraine Foster (rightside hitter), Ashley Hopkins (outside hitter) and Meron Kebede (exchange student, defensive specialist).

“Each and everyone of these young ladies made an impact on the court,” Nostrant said. “Their leadership helped build the team together.”

As for next season, “we will be doing a lot of work,” she said. “We’re working in the weight room, conditioning, running camps for our younger gals. We will be doing some floor work in the spring. We want to build our program to a dominant one.”

Allyssa Witbeck was Evart’s only all-conference player.
