Evart volleyball team falls to Vestaburg 3-2

EVART — Evart won a pair of 26-24 games against Vestaburg Thursday night but it wasn’t enough for the Wildcats in a 3-2 loss.The Wildcats took the first game 26-24 but lost the next two 25-18, 25-11.

The fourth game went Evart’s way 26-24, but Vestaburg dominated the final game 15-4 to win the match. Alexus Wimmer got an attack for the winning point in the fourth game.Tabby Turley had 19 assists for Evart while Wimmer had eight kills and Kristin Kullman added seven.The Wildcats played without their top middle hitter Kirsten Parsons, who was out with pneumonia but is expected to be back.

One of Evart’s players, senior Sabrina McKay, remains hopeful of more wins for the Wildcats in upcoming matches.

“Most of aren’t feeling very well,” McKay said, indicating the team ran out of gas in the last game. “We had some girls too sick to play so we have to put new girls in and get them all switched.”

McKay is a left side hitter and all-around.

“I try as hard as I can, “she said. “I’m more of a good setter, passer.”

Missing Parsons “puts a little bit of a pull on us since we don’t have our highest middle blocker,” McKay said, adding that she’s focusing on her hitting to get the attacks more


Evart fell to 3-7. The Wildcats are at Lake City next Tuesday

“We’re starting to stay consistent now,” McKay said, adding that team members will continue to work on communication and moving their feet.
