Evart volleyball girls prepare for match at Marion

EVART — The regular-season is starting to wind down for the Evart Wildcats.

Evart was at Pine River Tuesday for its only match this week. The regular season closes Oct. 29 with Highland Conference action at Marion. The conference tourney is Nov. 2 at McBain.

The Wildcats will enter the Pine River Class C district the week of Nov. 4.

Evart took a 2-0 lead over Manton in the Wildcats’ home finale Tuesday, Oct 15, but lost the last three games in Highland Conference action.

The Wildcats were victorious in the first two games 25-18, 25-21, but it was all Manton with 25-19, 25-21, 15-11 wins.

In the first game, Sabrina McKay had a kill and the Wildcats had a 21-13 lead en route to the seventh win. McKay also had an ace in the second game for a 21-15 lead and the Wildcats were able to advance to the 2-0 lead.

“They wanted it. They wanted to play hard and go for it,” said Evart coach Krissy Weidenfeller, referring to the first two games.

The third game was tied 10-10 and Manton served for a couple of aces and 17-13 lead. In the fourth game, the Rangers built the 23-17 advantage. McKay had an ace to cut the lead to 23-21 but Manton scored the next two points.

The fifth game started out with a 5-4 Evart lead but Manton took over control. Becca Reddick served two aces to get her team to a 12-8 lead. It was 14-8 and Kendra Foster served Evart to the 11th point. But the Rangers had a kill for the 15th point.

The Wildcats seemed to run out of gas.

“That happens, I guess, but I’m not sure why,” Weidenfeller said.

Kristin Kullman had four aces for Evart while Parsons had six kills and Foster added four. McKay collected 10 digs.
