EVART — McBain just had too much firepower for Evart in Highland Conference volleyball action Tuesday night, Sept. 20.

The Ramblers controlled the net throughout the entire evening and handed the Wildcats a 25-13, 25-14, 25-18 setback.

McBain fired out to a 19-9 lead in the first game. Saige Nabozny’s kill for Evart made it 23-12. Anne Marie Hamlet had a tip for the Ramblers who netted the 25th point on a net error from the Wildcats.

Evart fired out to a 5-3 lead in the second game before McBain took control.

Danielle Hoekwater’s kill put McBain up 25-13 and an out-of-bounds hit by Evart provided the Ramblers with the 25th point.

In the third game, Meredith Hamlet hit two straight aces for a 21-9 lead en route to the match-winner.

“Their big middle could hit anywhere and everywhere,” said Nabozny. “Our serve receive kind of killed us tonight. We couldn’t pass and our hits weren’t going down. We have to work as a team. Communication is the big one. Once we pull that together, we can be a good team overall.”

Nabozny plays the left side for Evart and is in her first varsity season. Coverage has been a strength, she said, but she wants to improve on her hitting.

Nabozny had six kills and two aces for Evart followed by Magdalen Hyde with five kills, two aces and two digs, Lydia Wetters with five assists and Chelsea Bengry with two blocks and two digs. Stephonya Hamilton had five assists.

McBain is 2-0 in the league.

Evart falls to 6-8-1 overall and 1-1 in the Highland.
