Evart volleyball 2-10 at Crossroads tourney

BIG RAPIDS  — It was a long day of volleyball at the Crossroads Charter Academy Tournament, but the host team came away with a third-place finish.

CCA was 6-6 after six rounds of pool play. Hesperia defeated Clare in the title match.

The Cougars swept Evart 25-16, 25-18, split with Hesperia 25-19, 15-25, split with Marion 23-25, 25-12, lost to Clare 25-22, 26-24, swept Vestaburg 25-14, 25-14 and split with Hesperia 25-19, 15-25.

Leaders for Crossroads included Lydia Bennett, McKenzie Cole, Bethany Curtis, Hannah Curtis, Haley Jankowski, Karen Karr, Myers, Trinity Murry and Kylee Purcell.

Evart lost to Crossroads, split with Marion 23-25, 25-23, lost to Clare 25-18, 25-22 and to Hesperia 25-19, 25-10, split with Walkerville 10-25, 25-15 and lost to Vestaburg 25-13, 25-23.

“We played a lot of volleyball,” Evart coach Katie Nostrant said. “The girls played really well. They did really good. I can’t say enough about them. Teamwork, that’s the main thing. They played together.”

Leaders for Evart included Danielle Beasley, Danielle Conklin, Livia Hopkins and McKenzie Kimball.

With six two-game matches, Nostrant indicated her team may have gotten tired toward the end.

“We played pretty good against Crossroads and pretty good against Marion,” Nostrant said. “We had a lot of good serves.”

Evart is at Beal City in Highland Conference action on Tuesday.
