EVART — Evart improved to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the league with a 34-29 win over Manton on Friday in Highland Conference action. Manton fell to 1-4 and 0-3.

Billy Conklin and Kyle Stokes had two touchdowns apiece for Evart. Jericho VanScoyoc caught a TD pass from Carter Pritchard.

Evart led 14-7 after the first quarter and 21-13 at halftime. There was no scoring in the third quarter.

Evart was down 29-28, but VanScoyoc’s 79-yard touchdown play put the Wildcats up for good with three minutes to go.

“It was a classic make-one-guy-miss-and-outrun-them-down-the sidelines type of play,” Assistant coach Ken Rangel said.

Stokes had five rushes for 157 yards. Conklin had 13 for 132 yards. Prichard was 6-of-11 for 145 yards.

Defensively, Josh Dorn had nine solo tackles and five assists. Karsten Allen had 10 solo tackles, three assists and three fumble recoveries.

“Cortez Bryant played really well matched up against Manton’s best receiver,” Rangel said. “It was back and forth in the fourth quarter. We gave up a kickoff return for them to take the lead. We recovered a fumble on our three that defensively won us the game with 50 seconds to go.”

Evart is at Beal City on Friday.
