EVART — Evart’s boys track team held back Lake City 84-79 Wednesday night in Highland Conference action.

It came down to the 1,600-meter relay with Evart placing first with the team of Jacob Hopkins, John Danley, David Zimmer and Logan Hammer in 3:47.60.

Evart beat McBain 133-23.

“I thought it was a great meet,” said Evart coach Dennis Peacock. “Those were two really good teams. They performed really well, so did we. How fitting was it to come down to the mile relay?”

“Overall we did pretty good,” Danley said. “There’s a lot of room for improvement.”

In the Lake City meet, Evart winners were Gavin Chupp in the 100 and 300 hurdles, Max Hodges in the 3,200-meter run, Larry VanBuren in the discus, Zinger in the 800 and 1,600-meter runs, Nate Struble in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, Logan Hammer in the 400-meter dash, the 3,200-meter relay team of John Danley, Zach Douglas, Max Hodges and Logan Hammer and Alex Newton, Larry Van Buren, Jacob Fortune and Nate Struble in the 400-meter relay; Rick Miller in the pole vault, Jacob Hopkins in the long jump, Micah Wetters in the high jump and Dean Marsh in the shot put and the 100-meter dash.

Evart the top four spots in the 800 with David Zinger, Max Hodges, Hammer and Danley,  The Evart girls nipped Lake City 82-80 and beat McBain 81-76.

“We looked pretty good,” said Evart coach Amanda Langell. “I had a few that were tired. There might be a bug going around.”

Winners for Evart were Tabitha Turley in both hurdles, Kaitlyn Parsons in the discus, Mara VanOrder in the 400-meter dash, Jessica Tea in the 200-meter dash; Cynthia Brown, Raigan Clark, Ashley French and Mara VanOrder in the 1,600-meter relay, Tina Fournier, Cynthia Brown and Jessica Tea and Tabitha Turley in the 400-meter relay, Tea and VanOrder (co-winners) in the high jump and Kirsten Parsons in the shot put.

Evart was at the Reed City JV Invitational on Saturday. Santana Scott was first in the 1,600-meter run in 4:53 and 3,200-meter run in 11:01.

Tabitha Turley won the 100 hurdles in 17.95 and was second in the 100 dash in 14:08. Mara VanOrder won the 800-meter run in 2:50.58.
