Evart thrower reflects on track career
EVART -- Sydney Cleland recently competed a strong season in the throws for the Evart girls track and field team. Cleland qualified for the Pioneer Track and Field meet, and competed at Top Taggart field in late May in the discus. She also ran the 400-and 800-meter relays. This was her senior season.
“It went really good,” she said. “I did good in (Highland) conference discus wise. I switched events a lot I went from relays to open (events), back and forth.”
She placed in the conference meet in the discus.
“It came out of the middle of nowhere,” Cleland said of her effort. “I didn’t think I’d make finals. I got done sprinting a 200 and I was extremely exhausted.”
She was the second leg in her relays. “We’ve been decent.” she said. “We haven’t been stunning but we’ve been good.”
Discus was her best event.
“I threw discus four years and shot for four.” she added.
