Evart sweeps Manistee Catholic Central in non-conference action

EVART — Evart’s volleyball coach Katie Nostrant couldn’t have been happier to see her players work together for a non-conference 3-0 win on Thursday, Oct. 13, against visiting Manistee Catholic Central, 25-18, 25-22 and 25-21.

“We were a little slow to start out,” Nostrant said. “They came together though. We did pretty good on our passes, our defense and our talking. It was very good (Thursday night).”

MCC played hard throughout the three sets, with the team battling back to make for some tense moments during the second and third sets.

“We had a lot of fun,” MCC coach Taylor Ozimac said. “This is the first time we’ve seen Evart. I thought I saw a lot of good things from the girls happening. There was good moving today. We were able to put in a couple bench players, and they really stepped up and showed me a lot.”

Ozimac said Natalie McLinden stepped up to lead the Sabers.

“I have to give credit where credit is due,” she said. “(McLinden) kept us in each game tonight.”

With the Sabers battling back in the third set to make it 22-18, Nostrant said her team fought through to finish the match.

“I was a little nervous, but the girls were tough,” she said.

Nostrant couldn’t point out any particular player standing out Thursday, as she said her players came together during the three games of the match.

“The whole team played together,” she said. “We had bench players who were in the game from the start cheering on their teammates. It was a total team effort.”

On the court, MCC was led by Molly McLinden with 6 kills, Elizabeth Nelson had 3 kills to go along with 3 assists. Sarah Bialik finished with 6 assists.
