Evart sophomore runner having strong season

EVART — Alex Hamilton has been having success as a sophomore for Evart’s cross country team.

He and his twin brother, Austin have usually been the No. 3 and 4 runner for Evart behind brothers Josh and Nathan Woods.

“The beginning of the season wasn’t going as well as we had hoped,” Hamilton said. “We really stepped it up in (recent) meets. I’ve ran faster this year already than I have last year. I trained a lot harder this summer. Coach (Kevin Mills) has been working on our mental toughness to be able to work hard.”

The Wildcats will be taking aim at the regional meet this week.

“We think we have a shot at that,” Hamilton said. “The key will be teamwork and staying accountable with the guys on the team.”

His best time has been 18:16. He’s hoping to get a 17:50 before the season ends.

“It will take a lot of preparation and mental toughness,” he said. “The team is looking awesome this year. We’ll stay strong for many years to come.”

“The end,” Hamilton said, “is where I excel.”
