Evart sophomore off to solid start

EVART  — McKenzie Kimball entered the season expecting to be a main force for Evart’s girls basketball team

So far, it’s turned out that way.

Kimball and the Wildcats are 1-5 going into the holiday break. She scored 15 points the second game of the season in a win over Forest Area. It’s the type of effort the Wildcats would like to duplicate in upcoming games.

She recalls scoring from outside and converting on putbacks.

“We executed very well and defense was pretty solid,” she said.

Kimball said she plans on filling various roles for “whatever I can do to help the team.”

Her offense might be more of a strength than defense, Kimball said. Her shooting is especially a weapon.

The Wildcats graduated Mara VanOrder last season, and Kimball indicated it takes a team effort to compensate for that loss. VanOrder was especially effective with the inside game for Evart. But Kimball is among the players the Wildcats are looking for from the go-to standpoint.
