EVART -- Skylar Baumgardner is a sophomore who came up halfway during the season in 2018 for Evart's volleyball team.

But she's been playing an impressive role for the Wildcats this season.

"I feel like I've made a lot improvement," she said.

Baumgardner and Deanna Conklin have been setters for Evart. Baumgardner said having two is better than one, in this case, especially from the standpoint of keeping setters mentally and physical sharp and rested.

Working with hitters is critical for setters, Baumgardner agreed.

"I play all around," she said, adding serving has been a speciality. "Hitting spots (is critical)."

Baumgardner indicated she's had a strong season consistently getting her serves over the net.

Baumgardner likes the progress the Wildcats have made over the season under first-year coach Amanda Brown.

"I feel like we've made a lot of improvement," she said. "We need to keep improving our attitudes and setting our minds to our goals."

Baumgardner is a three-sport athlete. She also plays softball but said basketball is her favorite sport. She acknowledged volleyball gets her ready for basketball.

The Wildcats lost in district play on Wednesday against Pine River.
