Evart sophomore giving Wildcats valuable spark
EVART - Hayden Simmer has been making valuable contributions in his sophomore season for Evart's football team.
The Wildcats are 3-2 overall, and Simmer is among the key reasons why. He plays a slotback and defensive back for Evart.
The Wildcats went 3-0 after a 7-6 win against Manton earlier this month. Simmer had the winning touchdown catch for the Wildcats.
"It was just a little out of the backfield route," Simmer recalled. "I play slot/wide receiver. I do what I can."
"He continues to grow," Evart coach Pat Craven said. "He's a sophomore and keeps getting better and better."
Simmer also had a pass completion on a fake punt during the game. Simmer is normally an outside linebacker but has played some at the corner route.
"I can read the quarterback's eye pretty well," he said.
The Wildcats lost to Beal City and McBain the last two weekends and are 3-1. But it's still been a good start.
"Plays that don't go our way, we pick each other up," Simmer said. "We have to play tough, and come together as a team like we have been."
This Friday, the Wildcats are at Houghton Lake.
