Evart sophomore cheerleader happy season took place

EVART - Lexie Keathley is a sophomore for Evart who has been on Wildcat competitive cheer teams for four seasons.

This is varsity No. 2 and Keathley was hoping it will be a memorable one.

"We did pretty well last year and I got new skills," she said. "Practices were going good. It was a little harder with all the restrictions and stuff."

Cheerleaders are required to wear masks.

"It gets hot," Keathley said, while adding she's confident the team can still perform well while wearing the masks.

She's a base for her team. But from Nov. 16 to Jan. 16 when sports were shut down, "it was stressful and it gets you down because you don't know if you're going to be able to do the sport you love."

The team "needs to keep working as we are and get new skills," Keathley said. "We have to keep our conditioning up."

Cheer is her only sport.

"I feel more like we're a family as a team and we know what we need to do to get better," Keathley said.
