EVART — Evart’s softball team split two games Saturday in the Buckley Invitational.

The Wildcats defeated Crossroads 14-3 and lost in the finals 14-4 to Buckley.

Sam Bressler finished up both games as Evart pitcher. Taylor Martin started the first game and Sabrina McKay started the second.

McBain swept Evart 4-3 and 7-1 in Highland Conference softball action Tuesday night, May 7.

Sam Bressler took the loss in the opener, allowing six hits and striking out seven. Bressler, Sabrina McKay and Katelyn Whitman had base hits for Evart.

The second game was tied 1-1 until the sixth inning when McBain exploded for six runs.

“We have one bad inning every game it seems like,” said Evart coach Tracy Gray. “We were playing a good game. But it’s one inning in each game.

“I told the girls we played good, I wasn’t disappointed at all. We played two great games.”

Trisha Riskovich and Whitman had base hits for Evart. Bressler took the loss and allowed nine hits.

“We’re making progress in batting and infielding,“ said Evart catcher Shayna Rushing. “We definitely need to work on pop ups. That’s our biggest problem.”

Rushing has been a catcher for seven years but said it’s her first season working with Bressler.

“We get along great,” Rushing said. ”She’s been accurate. She’s doing pretty good this year.”
