Evart softball team eyes more victories
EVART — Evart’s softball team is looking for more wins this season, but will have to do it without pitcher Sam Bressler who graduated last spring.
Tri County won 17-0 over the Wildcats last Wednesday in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. The second game was rained out.
Coach Jeff Bressler said all of his players, except for daughter Sam Bressler, return from last season.
Among the returning players are Loraine Foster at first base, Dani Beasley at second base, Nat Burhans at shortstop, Ashley Hopkins at third base, Dani Conklin at catcher, Makayla Wallace in left field and Rachel Martin in center field.
Sid Sanders and Hopkins will do some pitching.
“We’re still working that out,” Bressler said. “Tri County is a Class B school. But we didn’t perform the fundamentals that need to be done.”
Prior to the first game, Evart had been able to get out and practice only twice.
“I was using this game as a barometer to see where we really were,” Bressler said. “Now we know.”
The Wildcats return from spring break next week for home games April 12 with Reed City and April 16 with Charlevoix. The Highland Conference season opens April 25 with Manton.
