EVART – It may not seem like spring but it’s the time of year athletes such as Evart’s Lillie Gallinger are looking forward to very much.

Gallinger is a junior coming off her first year of Wildcat volleyball. She admitted the adjustment to the higher level was very challenging.

“On JV I was front row, while on varsity, I switched to completely back row, that was a big change,” Gallinger said. “I wound up doing a lot of passing.”

The key to being a good passer “is moving your feet all the time,” Gallinger said. “I feel I‘m pretty good at covering and helping out the back row.”

She was also a server for the Wildcats.

“The key is hitting the ball at the middle of the ball not at the top, Gallinger said, referring to the keys of being an effective server.

Evart had a strong finish to its season. A late-season win over Pine River was a key highlight.

“We’ve been a little rough,”  Gallinger said. “We could be doing so much better. We’ve had a struggle coming together as one. We were close as a team and come together well.”

Gallinger is currently focusing on winter travel softball. As an outfielder, she’s a key part of the Evart softball team which will soon have winter workouts.

“I have travel ball so we do softball all year-round,” she said. “Usually we’re upstate, down state, out of state, all over.”

While she was a key volleyball player this fall for Evart, Gallinger said softball is her favorite sport and her main focus.
