Evart softball boasts experience this season
EVART — If the weather allows it, Evart’s softball team will get its first taste of regular-season play this week.
Coach Jeff Bressler’s team has been practicing since March 13 and returned from spring break this week. Bressler indicated his team would be practicing three days during the break.
“We look pretty good,” Bressler said. “We’ve got more experience than we ever have. We’ll work real heavy on defense.”
Returning players include Danielle Conklin at catcher, Dani Beasley at second base, Nat Burhans at utility, Syd Sanders at catcher, Megan Myers at utility and Cyanna Dellar at third base. Conklin is a four-year varsity player.
McKenzie Kimball is a returning sophomore outfielder. Carlie Gosling also is a returning sophomore. Kaitlyn Gudding will be at pitcher and shortstop, Cierra Campbell will be at third base. Junior Savanna Ross is a utility player. Livia Hopkins, a freshman, is at shortstop.
Burhans, Gosling, Gudding and Kimball will be the pitchers.
Evart had a game scheduled for late March but the fields weren’t ready. A doubleheader for Tuesday was rained out.
Charlevoix comes to Evart for a doubleheader on Saturday.
The Wildcats have a home twinbill on April 13 against Maple City Glen Lake and are at Farwell on April 18. They will then have four straight home games with Harrison (April 20), Manton (April 25), Big Rapids (April 26) and tournament opponents (April 29).
The twinbill with Manton opens the league season for Evart.
