EVART – Evart’s girls volleyball team competed with Pine River, Reed City and McBain on Thursday during a quad with players like Keira Elder looking to have a strong performance going into the Division 3 districts next week.

Elder found out the day of tryouts she would be on the Wildcat varsity team.

“I was very surprised,” she said. “At the beginning I thought it was going to take awhile (to adjust). The girls were super encouraging.”

Elder plays setter and back row for the Wildcats.

At setter the key “is to have confidence in yourself,” Elder said. “I’m doing OK.”

In being a good passer, “the key is getting the ball to your setter and watch the ball,” Elder said.

She also has been focusing on serving.

“I try to make the ball move,” Elder said.

As a team, “we’re getting better,” she said. “We have to get more confident and have a positive attitude.”

Elder also plays basketball and softball, and lists softball as her favorite. She plays on a softball travel teams. A lot of the girls on the volleyball team plays all three sports, which Elder said is a huge benefit.
