EVART – The Wildcats earned their ticket to the title game after a 53-36 semifinal win over Pine River. A huge 22-4 advantage in the fourth got the job done for Evart.

Evart led 13-11 after the first quarter but Pine River was up 24-21 at halftime and 32-31 after the third quarter. The Wildcats exploded with a huge fourth quarter with Emma Dyer scoring six points and Brianna Cass and Skylar Baumgardner scoring five apiece.

Baumgardner led Evart with 17 points, followed by Dyer with 14 and Cass and Addy Gray with eight apiece.

“We were real happy with the way the girls fought in the fourth,” Evart coach Matt Tiedt said. “McBain is on top of the mountain. They won the conference. We’re looking forward to putting a better foot forward against them. Emma Shierbeck is as good of a player in northern Michigan. She got us for six and seven threes the first two times we played them. You can’t fully contain her but we have to do a better job of slowing her down.

Hailey Wanstead led Pine River with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Avery Sumpter had seven points, five rebounds and four assists. Madi Sparks had 10 rebounds and four assists, Lynn Belvin had six points “and played a great defensive game,” Pine River coach Paula Justin said.

Pine River ends the season at 8-13.
