EVART — Evart’s softball team will look for seniors like Samantha Bramer and Karena Hipkins to make valuable contributions on the baseball diamond this season.

Bramer was an all-Highland Conference player last season.

A third baseman, Bramer is in her third varsity season.

“We had a good year,” Bramer said of 2010, adding that her reflexes have helped her at third base. “We have a pretty good team. We’ve played together since we were little.”

In the Highland, “we can be toward the top,” she said.

Hipkins, a three-sport senior, was all-Highland Conference last season as a catcher.

“It was kind of a difficult season because we were transitioning between an old coach and new coach,” Hipkins said. “The team chemistry was a little off at first, throughout the year it got better. This year, we’ll just keep building.”

Hipkins is in her fourth varsity season.

Last season, she batted .500.

“I plan to improve,” she said. “Every year since my freshman year, I’ve been going up. I think it’s a combination between being a catcher and you know different ways of seeing the pitcher’s release, and maturity has something to do with it too.”

Hipkins has had a consistent throwing arm over the years.

The team “is going to be very strong,” she said. “We have seven seniors. The other players have been playing since they were little too. I think we’ll be top three in conference. Pine River will be tough. We can’t underestimate Manton. They’ve been getting tougher over the years.”
