Evart senior excited with 2020-21 season
EVART - Ryann Baumgardner is getting set for her senior sports season at Evart.
It looks like it's going to be a real good one.
Baumgardner most recently is coming off a 2019-20 season, which would have ended with her as a key member of the softball squad. All spring sports were canceled because of the COVID-19 crisis.
It would have been her third year of softball. She plays catcher and outfielder.
Baumgardner takes pride in her arm as a catcher. As an outfielder, her glove and arm were strengths. Her batting average has been around .300.
The key to being a good hitter "is keeping your eye on the ball," she said. "I'm probably a contact (hitter)."
Baumgardner, like her younger sister Skylar, is a versatile athlete and has also played volleyball and basketball. Ryann didn't have too much time to work on softball before the season started. She indicated volleyball is probably her best sport.
The news came on April 3 that there would not be a softball season.
"I was bummed," Baumgardner said, adding she had been trying to stay in shape with her sister by running and working out at home.
She was going to be a part of the summer softball team in the LAT League. But because of COVID, the summer league was also canceled.
Had there been a softball season the Wildcats could have been strong. She's expecting to have a very experience volleyball team. Being a senior, she anticipates on being a leader throughout the 2020-21 sports season.
