Evart senior confident team will collect more victories

EVART — Evart’s girls basketball team broke into the win column last month, and senior Rachel Martin and the other Wildcats are looking to chalk up a few more victories in upcoming weeks.

The Wildcats defeated Marion last month, 31-21, after a 71-29 setback to Crossroads earlier in the week.

“We had a bad first half, and then we tried to pull it together for the second half,” Martin said after the Crossroads loss. “They were pretty good. They weren’t 40 points better, but they’re better.”

Prior to the win over Marion, the Wildcats had strong game against conference teams like Lake City.

“We’re doing a lot of conditioning so we’re faster on the court,” Martin said. “We’re playing as a team and are coming out fast. I think we’re hustling back on defense better and we’re playing as a team, better than we were at the beginning of the season.”

She is a post player for the Wildcats.

“I think I can do better,” Martin said, adding defense has been a strength but she’s looking to score more baskets, “and going up strong. I’m usually smaller (than other post players). I need to be faster than them.”
