EVART — Sabrina McKay has had a productive season for the Evart Wildcats on the softball diamond. But she's hoping there will be more to come in the future.

McKay and the Wildcats were hoping to extend their season Tuesday at Newaygo when they took on White Cloud in a predistrict contest. If they win, they'll be playing at Newaygo on Saturday.

Evart's second baseman is in her first varsity season and has called it “so and so.” But in a recent doubleheader sweep over Buckley, McKay had two doubles and four RBIs in a game 1, 28-8 victory.

“I've been really improving,” said McKay who's made the adjustment to second base from shortstop. “It's a way different angle and different positions. They put me on second and said 'there you go.”

McKay is comfortable with the adjustments she's made at second base for the Wildcats.

As for hitting, “This game I'd have to say was really good,” she said during a contest with Lake City last week. “I have my days.”

On the varsity level, the pitchers “know how to position the ball pretty good,” McKay said. “They know what hitters want to hit and what they don't. It takes patience and knowing what you're doing.”

Evart, as a team, has been coming on strong in recent weeks, McKay said.

“We've been getting along pretty well the last few weeks,” McKay said. “Cooperating wise, we've been doing pretty good as far as talking and throwing and not getting mad at each other.”
