EVART — Nate Struble was extremely excited Friday night after he helped his Evart Wildcats pull off a stunning victory over the Beal City Aggies 52-43. It was Beal City’s first loss in the Highland Conference.

It also improved Evart to 4-6 prior to Monday night when the Wildcats defeated Vestaburg to improve to 5-6.

Struble scored 14 points against Beal City.

Cutting down on turnovers was huge, Struble said.

“We came out of the lockerroom and played hard right away,” Struble said. “We didn’t wait for the second half like we usually do.”

Slow starts have hurt the Wildcats in the past, but against Beal City, Evart enjoyed a strong one.

“I feel like our defense played pretty solid,” Struble said. “They took some bad shots which was a key aspect to our win.”

It was one of his better games, Struble felt.

“We definitely played as a team,” he said. “We played smarter.”

Tuesday night of this week, Evart was scheduled to play Beal City again in a game that was a makeup from December. This Thursday, Evart is at Manton and the Wildcats play at Lake City Feb. 12. The next home game is Feb. 15 with Marion. The win over Beal City will hopefully be a major confidence booster, Struble said.

“This gives us the confidence we need, knowing we gave them their first conference loss,” he said. “This give us all the confidence we need. We have to be consistent the whole game, play 100 percent the whole time. I feel like we did that tonight.”
