EVART – From cross country to wrestling, Corey Vader is ready to go.

The Evart junior cross country athlete recently ended his season as the team’s No. 1 runner. He saved his best for last with a personal record of 18 minutes, 41.9 seconds, at the NCAA Division 3 regional.

This marked his third year of cross country, but he said last fall was his best season. But that was before he set his PR which broke his previous personal record.

Vader indicated his second mile is usually the best part of his race.

The team has added more runners and has taken major steps Vader noted, toward building the program back up to respectability.

Vader also is a wrestler and plays baseball. He’s also looking at  doing track in the spring to become a four-sport athlete.

But he considers cross country to be his favorite.

“I love running,” he said, adding it keeps him in good shape for other sports.

The Evart wrestling team started its season on Nov. 15 with practices. The season starts at Hesperia on Dec. 8 and at the Big Rapids Invitational on Dec. 11.
