EVART — Evart’s softball team proved to be very competitive in the Highland Conference this season, led by several talented players that earned all-league honors.

Senior catcher Karena Hipkins led the way and was joined on the first team by Sam Bramer, Courtney Hooker and Rebekah Wirkutis. Magdalen Hyde earned honorable mention acclaim.

Bramer, a senior third baseman, batted .337 with 14 RBIs. She led the team with 27 singles.

“She was very solid defensively,” said Evart coach Josh Johnson. “She was very dependable.”

Hipkins batted .482 with 29 RBIs, 13 doubles and three triples.

“She had a really good season,” said Johnson. “Her biggest thing she improved on was her vocal leadership. She really stepped up and rallied the troops a lot.”

Hooker, a senior center fielder, batted .315 for the Wildcats with four doubles and 14 RBIs.

“She was very good defensively this year,” Johnson said. “Her fielding percentage was like .989.”

Wirkutis was a senor pitcher “who led us in about every pitching category,” Johnson said. “She pitched 121 innings and had 117 strikeouts.”

Wirkutis had an 11-7 record including five shutouts. Her ERA was 2.83.

“She pitched really well,” Johnson said. “We’ll really miss Rebekah.”

Hyde, a junior second baseman, batted .337 with eight RBIs and 26 singles.

“She was second on the team in hits behind Karena,” Johnson said. “She had a very solid season defensively. At the plate, she was second or third in about every offensive category.”
