Evart runner having strong sophomore season

EVART - Brianna Cass is in her sophomore season with Evart's cross country team and has been among the Wildcats' top runners.

It's her second year of cross country on the varsity and fourth overall.

As a freshman, "it went pretty good," Cass said. "I improved a lot from last year. This year I've slowed down a little."

Cass is still looking to beat her personal record from last year. She has a season record of 23:47.1 which she posted in a 30th-place finish in the MSAA pre-regional meet at Bear Lake.

"I try to be consistent in my race and try to pick it up in the last mile," Cass said.

Cass and Sophia Scott have been top two runners for Evart this season. Alaina Payne, who has transferred, plus Scott and Cass were in the top three for the Evart girls last year.

"Most of our girls have been on the team a couple of years," Cass said.

She lost her track season in the spring because of COVID and got in as much running as she could.

"We're trying to catch up for lost time," Cass said.

She also plays Evart basketball and will be playing for the Wildcats when the cross country season ends.

For cross country, "I like running in the woods and trying to improve my times every race," Cass said.
